Vitamin D is essential for bone health, immune protection and positive mood. Each VegeCap of GO Vitamin D3 1,000IU provides a full maximum daily dose of Vitamin D available for supplements in New Zealand.Product IngredientsVitamin D3Go Healthy New Zealand's Vitamin D3 supplement, also known as the Sunshine Supplement, provides the body with 1000 IU (International Units) of vitamin D3 per capsule. Vitamin D3 supplementation is becoming increasingly important as more people spend the majority of their time indoors. Vitamin D3 plays an important role in human health at all stages of life. It is created naturally by the body when skin is exposed to sunlight—if fully naked, just 20 minutes in the sun produces over 10000 IU. Vitamin D3 can influence the health of entire body, and a chronic deficiency can lead to a wide range of health issues, including: Depression Cognitive impairment Obesity Diabetes Musculoskeletal disorders Back or joint pain Arthritis Hypertension (high blood pressure) Impaired immune function Many other health issues Of course, vitamin D3 deficiency is not the only cause of the above conditions, and may be only one of several contributing factors. However, anyone who is deficient in vitamin D3 is likely to see at least some improvement in these areas as levels are restored to normal. The longer healthy levels of vitamin D3 are maintained the more benefit will be gained; the impact of long-term maintenance on healthy bones and cognitive function in the elderly is particularly notable. It also helps keep skin soft, supple and youthful looking. It's never too soon to start optimizing your vitamin D3 levels! Dosage & Administration Go Healthy's Vitamin D3 capsules are taken once per day, ideally with food. Opinions as to the ideal dosage of vitamin D3 can vary tremendously between countries, doctors and researchers. In New Zealand the maximum recommend daily dose is 1000 IU, hence each tablet containing 1000 IU of vitamin D3. Maximum daily recommended doses vary in other countries from 400 IU to 2000 IU, and many individuals take even higher doses of 3000 or 4000 IU per day. Some single-dose treatments administer up to 500000 IU, though this should only be done with medical supervision. While various recommended daily intake levels are sometimes disputed, there is also very often a lot validity to these differences when location is taken into account. Those living in the tropics likely need considerably less supplementation than those living near the poles. Patients determined to optimize their D3 levels should have their serum 1,25-dihydroxy D3 levels tested before and during supplementation to get a get an idea of how much supplementation is needed and to ensure it's working as intended. Regular testing of calcium levels is also important if supplementing with high doses of vitamin D3, as supplementation can sometimes cause calcium levels to rapidly rise. Those disinclined to involve a doctor in vitamin D3 supplementation should determine optimal doses based on their local recommended daily intake amounts and, if thinking about exceeding them, research the subject thoroughly. Overdosing on vitamin D3 can cause serious, even deadly complications. Warnings & Side Effects In otherwise healthy adults there are no side effects associated with vitamin D3 supplementation, provided it is within reasonable levels. Early warning signs that too much vitamin D3 is being taken include: Nausea and/or vomiting Unexplained rapid weight loss Persistent metallic taste in mouth Pain in muscles or bones Weakness or fatigue Symptoms of overdose, which warrant emergency medical attention, include: Confusion, disorientation, mood swings or erratic behavior Increased urination Chest pain Difficulty breathing Check with a doctor before starting vitamin D3 supplementation if you: Are pregnant or breastfeeding Have hypercalcemia (high levels of calcium in the blood) Have a history of heart or kidney disease Have an electrolyte imbalance Are taking prescription medications Check with a doctor for the ideal dosage before giving vitamin D3 supplements to a child; adult-size doses may cause serious complications in small bodies. Also note that human-size doses of vitamin D3 can be deadly to small animals, including cats, dogs, rabbits and other pets. If a pet or child consumes this product emergency medical attention is warranted even if no symptoms are apparent; symptoms can take up to 36 hours to appear.
