Description

Proctosedyl ointment has a three way action for effective relief of haemorrhoids and anal fissures (tears). 1. It has long acting pain relief using a local anaesthetic. 2. Reduces inflammation and swelling. 3. Relieves itching. DIRECTIONS: For best results apply after a bowel motion. Wash and dry anal area. For external haemorrhoids, apply a small amount of ointment to a finger and gently apply to affected area. For internal Haemorrhoids, attach nozzle to tube and insert into anus and squeeze tube while withdrawing. Apply to affected area up to 3 times daily. Leaflet enclosed for detailed directions. PRECAUTIONS: Not to be used on children 12 years of age and under. Do not use if allergic to any of the ingredients listed. Do not use for longer than 7 days unless advised by a doctor. Read enclosed leaflet before use.  See your doctor if symptoms persist.INGREDIENTS: Each Gram contains: Hydrocortisone 5mg/g, cinchocaine hydrochloride 5mg/g. Inactive ingredients: Liquid paraffin, white soft paraffin and wool fat.    Proctosedyl Ointment is used to alleviate pain, itching, burning and other disruptive symptoms caused by hemorrhoids and similar conditions affecting the anus. The medication's two active ingredients provide relief in a number of ways: Hydrocortisone soothes irritated skin, reduces inflammation and alleviates itching; Cinchocaine hydrochloride acts as a local anesthetic as well as an analgesic, for rapid and long-lasting pain relief. Cinchocaine hydrochloride also relaxes sore muscles around the anus. Relief comes quickly after application, and typically lasts around 6 hours. The ointment can be applied as-needed up to three times a day to alleviate symptoms from: Hemorrhoids (also called piles) Anal fissures or tearing Pruritus ani (chronic anal itching) Haemorrhoidectomy procedures Proctitis (inflammation of the anus) Post-partum hemorrhoid conditions This is a very effective product that is often recommended by physicians for pain relief from hemorrhoids and following hemorrhoid surgery. It should not be used to treat skin that is infected or applied to large open wounds. Using Proctosedyl Ointment The ointment can be used to provide both external and internal relief from pain, itching and other symptoms. Each tube of Proctosedyl Ointment includes a nozzle, which can be attached to the tip of the tube if needed for interior administration. In both cases hands should be thoroughly washed and dried before applying the ointment. The medication is usually administered following a bowel movement, as movements tend to exacerbate symptoms and a movement shortly after administration may remove significant amounts of the medication. The ointment can be applied as needed up to three times per day. To apply externally: Squeeze a small amount of ointment onto a fingertip. Gently rub the ointment onto the area that is painful, itching or otherwise irritated. To apply internally: Screw the nozzle tightly onto the end of the tube. Leave the cap on the nozzle until it's firmly attached to the tube, to prevent accidentally squeezing out some of the ointment. Carefully insert the nozzle into the anus. Gently squeeze the tube while slowly pulling the nozzle out. Remain still for a few minutes to allow the medication to work. Wash nozzle thoroughly after use. Pain, itching, burning and other unpleasant symptoms will begin to subside within a few minutes of administration. Relief typically lasts around 6 hours. Daily use should not exceed 7 consecutive days without doctor approval; long-term use can lead to potentially serious side effects. While Proctosedyl Ointment is used to help manage symptoms in some chronic conditions, it is typically used sporadically during flare-ups, not every day for months or years. Warnings & Side Effects Most people can use Proctosedyl Ointment short term with no problems at all. A small percentage of patients may develop a rash or thinning skin at the application site. These symptoms are not cause for concern unless severe or persistent. The ointment should not be applied to infected skin. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should discuss potential risks with a doctor before using Proctosedyl Ointment. Long term use of this product can cause adrenal suppression, which can be serious if unaddressed. Warning signs include: Appetite changes Inability to concentrate Pain in stomach or abdomen Unexplained weight loss Nervousness or restlessness Weakness or dizziness Constantly feeling sick If the above symptoms are experienced after using Proctosedyl Ointment for more than 7 days, medical attention should be sought. Regular doctor checkups will likely catch many of these developing issues before they become serious.
