Dosage: Apply 2 sprays of Livostin nasal spray in each nostril twice a day. If your symptoms are severe, you can apply the spray 3-4 times a day. Treatment should be continued for as long as required for symptom relief. Warning: May occasionally cause drowsiness. Active Ingredients: Levocabastine (As Hydrochloride) 0.5mg/ml. Livostin Nasal Spray (levocabastine)is an antihistamine used to provide relief from nasal allergy symptoms. It is a fast-acting medication with a low incidence of side effects, safe for use in patients 12 years old and up. Patients suffering from eye allergies may want to check out Livostin Eye Drops for similar rapid relief of eye-related allergy symptoms. Keeping Allergies at Bay with Livostin Nasal Spray The active ingredient in Livostin nasal spray, levocabastine, inhibits the body's production of histamine in the areas where it is administered—in this case, the nasal passages. It prevents or alleviates allergy symptoms of: Sneezing Nasal congestion Runny nose Itching in the nose or throat Post-nasal drip The medication is only effective when the above symptoms are caused by exposure to an allergen, such as: Mold Dust Grass Pollen Animal dander Pollution Other allergens Livostin nasal spray will not alleviate nasal irritation from other causes, such as bacterial, viral or fungal infections, even if symptoms are the same. The nasal spray can be used as-needed or continuously. As-needed use will help stop symptoms which are already in progress; depending on the severity of the allergic reaction and the amount of exposure to allergens, one dose may suffice or it may take several doses over the course of a day or two to completely eliminate symptoms. Long term use is employed when allergen exposure is very likely for a length of time, such as is the case with many seasonal allergies. In this scenario the medication is taken daily for up to 10 weeks, to prevent symptoms from developing at all. For many people Livostin nasal spray is moderately more effective when used for several consecutive days. The medication is fast and easy to use; administration takes only seconds: Administer 2 sprays per nostril 2 times per day. Increase to 2 sprays per nostril 3 or 4 times per day if needed. Livostin nasal spray is also fast-acting; significant improvements should be felt within 15 minutes of administering a dose. Effects remain for 6 to 12 hours, depending on allergen exposure, the severity of the allergic reaction, and individual patient response. If allergy symptoms are not considerably improved after several treatments with Livostin nasal spray, alternative options should be considered. Adverse Effects Unlike orally administered antihistamines or steroid-based allergy treatments, Livostin nasal spray is extremely unlikely to produce any serious side effects. Some mild side effects are not uncommon, primarily a momentary stinging or burning in the nostrils immediately after a spray is administered. Less common side effects include: Dizziness Drowsiness Headache Nosebleed Throat irritation Blurred vision Bad taste in back of mouth The above side effects are only cause for concern if severe or persistent. Most side effects will stop occurring entirely if the medication is used for several days. Patients with a history of kidney disease should use this product with caution and be alert for warning symptoms throughout treatment. Speaking with a doctor before initiating treatment is a good idea. There are no known drug interactions associated with Livostin nasal spray. If using other nasal spray treatments, wait at least 15 minutes between administrations. Use of other nasal antihistamines or an oral antihistamine during treatment with Livostin nasal spray should generally be avoided unless explicitly instructed otherwise by a doctor. Children aged 12 and up can use adult doses of Livostin nasal spray. The medication can be used in children as young as 6 years old, but dosage and frequency of administration should be determined by a doctor. There is little information available as to effects on children under 6 years of age.
